Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edward "Ed" Lee Floyd, aged 78, of Covington, Georgia, who departed this life peacefully on October 14, 2025, surrounded by his cherished loved ones.

Born on December 14, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Helen Georgie Harris and Edgar Earl Williams, Ed was a man whose life embodied dedication and service. He committed himself early to his faith, embracing a spiritual calling that led him to serve as a priest for several years. Through his compassion and wisdom, he uplifted many, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he ministered to.

A proud U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, Ed honorably served his country for seven years, with deployments in Vietnam, the Philippines, and Germany. His military service was a testament to his deep commitment to discipline, integrity, and the responsibility of helping others.

Following his distinguished military career, Ed pursued higher education at Shorter College and the University of Georgia, where he earned a Bachelor of Business degree. He went on to enjoy a successful career, culminating in his retirement in 2017 as a Safety Director at Price Industries, where he was held in high regard for his leadership and dedication.

Ed was a man of profound faith and steadfast values, with an unwavering love for his family. He was a devoted husband to Glenda Mae Floyd and a cherished father to Scott (Camille) Floyd of Jacksonville, Florida, and Shannon (Becky) Floyd of Cumming, Georgia. As a proud stepfather, he embraced Awusi Battle of Union City, Georgia, Robert Crawford of Social Circle, Georgia, Sherrad Crawford of Conyers, Georgia, and Joycelyn Moore of Conyers, Georgia.

He reveled in the joy of his grandchildren: Tyler Floyd, Caleb Floyd, Caitlyn Floyd, Paris Vonez, Adrian Crawford, Camryn Shelley, Makilah Crawford, and Zyanna Battle. A beloved uncle to Corey (Alejandro) Buice and Casey Buice, Ed also held dear his relationships with his brothers-in-law, Arthur Barrett, Eugene Barrett, and Luther Barrett. A loyal friend to many, his warmth and generosity touched countless lives.

In his leisure, Ed found pleasure in the simple joys of life—whether it was cheering for his beloved University of Georgia Bulldogs, fishing, golfing, or indulging in historical documentaries. He will be remembered not only for his generous heart and unwavering faith but also for his readiness to extend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Edward "Ed" Lee Floyd leaves behind an enduring legacy of love, strength, and faith that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who loved him.
